MARKETING ON INTERACTIVE WEB SITES:
Signing up for friendster, myspace, and the facebook are free for consumers. So how do the creators of these web sites make so much money? Through interactive marketing and advertising, that’s how. All of these web sites get millions of hits per day because of the amount of people who have profiles on these web sites. Therefore companies pay the creator of these web sites to advertise on them. This is an effective marketing tool because all of these sites have a very tailored audience so it’s easy for companies to create ad’s for the specific target audience. Most of these sites are young males and females aged 16-30. Many different products and or services that are advertised on these web sites have a specific link to the target audience. This makes it easy for advertisers to have a specified channel of reaching consumers.
The creators then make a significant amount of money. For example the creator of Myspace, is Tom he has his own profile and is friends with every single person on myspace. This was designed to link everyone together. I personally never knew the amount of money that creators of web sites such a these make. I tried to get into contact with Tom via a myspace message to ask him more details about the creation of myspace. He never messaged me back, obviously because he has 54 million other friends to deal with.
